Unpaid Intern Maddy’s Weekly Rehash: Don’t Call Me Maybe.
Every week, JUMP intern Maddy Court scours the blogosphere for musical rumblings and other fun stuff. Enjoy!
Columbian band Bomba Estéreo played at World Cafe Live on Friday night. Our friends El Malito and the 33rd Century headlined in matching plaid shirts and pink pants (as seen above in images by Mike Dennis).
Bomba Estéreo has a huge international following (though El Malito has an intergalactic following, which is cooler) and keeps a photoblog of all their world travels.
Sigur Ros performed the first part of a two day run at the Mann Center last night. It was the Icelandic band’s first live performance in four years, so fans were at the ready with cameras and recording equipment.
I personally loved this brief recap by Tumblr user @satellitefive, but Philly.com also ran a pretty judicious review on the show.
Summer 2012 will be remembered as the one where a minimum of 50 “Call Me Maybe” parodies were uploaded to YouTube every day. This one by Philly realtor Liz Lutz is pretty endearing because a). it features shots of Passyunk Avenue and the art museum and b). she seems so earnest about selling houses.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Don’t watch the video. It will make you want to jump out a window. Just saying …
Finally, WXPN’s The Key asked Strand of Oaks‘ frontman, Tim Showalter, to curate a Spotify playlist. It’s moody and dark, the perfect soundtrack for the end of the summer.
