It’s going to be crazy cold this weekend so you should totally pack yourself into a steamy, crowded music venue and dance your ass off. It’s really the only sane option. Here are a few places you can do such a thing.
FRIDAY
Slutever, Cold Fronts, Young Rapids and Eastern Midwestern at Sprinkle Kingdom
Sassy Slutever and danceable punk Cold Fronts in a West Philly basement? Sounds like a party.
SATURDAY
The A’s Reunion show at Underground Arts
These guys were one of Philly’s great bands in the 80s, when there were a lot of great rock bands here.
Nightlands (Record Release Show) at Kung Fu Necktie
The War on Drugs’ bassist, Dave Hartley, has a side project, Nightlands, that is generating massive buzz and for good reason. Jon Barthmus from Sun Airway and Scott Churchman from Ape School will also perform.
Catnaps, Roof Doctor and Traffic Nightmare at Kung Fu Necktie
This a big show full of lots of young Philly talent.
Mic Stew and Max Swan at Bourbon Blue
Mic Stew is a crazy talented freestyle rapper. Max Swan is a talented multi-instrumentalist who plays a mean jazz saxophone. This should be an interesting collaboration. Plus, Mic Stew has a full lineup of Philly rappers set to perform.
Regardless of the weather, this will likely be packed. The Canadian twins Tegan and Sara’s new album drops next week. Hopefully they’ll play some of the new stuff at The Piazza. Dress warm for this outdoor show.
The Adults, Casket, Wise Guys, Get Railed and Binfold at Beaumont Warehouse
The Adults are among our favorite Philly punk bands. And that says a lot. Catch them at this West Philly show before they dash off to New Zealand for a few weeks.
SUNDAY
The xx at The Electric Factory
These indie-pop Brits build every song up to a crescendo that never actually occurs, which could be annoying. But it just seems to make everyone want more.
