Weekend Music Picks: Everybody’s A Winner.
It’s a pretty awesome weekend for Philly music, with a ton of great acts playing all over town, and most of the shows are wicked cheap. There’s so much good stuff, it’s going to be hard picking which show to see. So, get out there and support your community, people!
FRIDAY
Reef The Lost Cauze has been repping Philly hard, around the world, for a long time now. He headlines a solid lineup at the ultimate dive bar/intimate venue. And with Philly being Philly, who knows who else might show up and jump on stage (Army of The Pharoahs, I’m looking at you).
Toy Soldiers, Goodnight, Texas, August John Lutz II of Levee Drivers at Kung Fu Necktie
This will be a rockabilly good time.
OCD: Moosh & Twist at Union Transfer
Our summer 2012 issue cover boys always get the crowd bouncing with their high energy performances.
Chill Moody, Hank McCoy and Beano at The Blockley
We are unabashed Chill Moody fans at JUMP. He brings his talented crew everywhere he goes. And this show is free.
Pissed Jeans with Lantern and Leather at Underground Arts
Celebrate the new record from Pissed Jeans, Philly’s super-loud, angst-ridden punks. By the way, we’re giving away free tickets!
SATURDAY
The Extraordinaires, Conversations With Enemies, OhBree and more at The Fire
Very excited to see The Extraordinaires, another of Philly’s great, experimental, roots-based good-time bands.
Black Thought, Marsha Ambrosius, Chill Moody, Dice Raw, DJ Aktive and more at Sigma Sound
This is a benefit show for Black Thought’s GrassROOTS Community Foundation, which benefits young women in Philly. This is a pricey show but a worthy cause.
Alo Brasil Carnaval Dance Party at World Cafe Live
Philly’s own 12-piece Brazilian troupe will have everyone dancing. Go prepared.
SUNDAY
Tri State Indie Music Awards at World Cafe Live
We here at JUMP have wanted to get all of the Philly music scene leaders in one room for a long time. This event is probably the closest thing that could come to that. More than 30 awards will be given out to local artists. And there will be performances by a number of great Philly acts. Plus you get a gift bag full of stuff, including a compilation CD full of Philly music.
