Japanther and The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! @ Ortlieb’s Lounge.

July 11, 2013

JapantherOrtliebs02There is so much to love about Japanther. They are loud and fast and full of witty social commentary. And they’ll play anywhere – basement parties, Williamsburg Bridge, Goldilocks Gallery, wherever.

JapantherOrtliebs01Last night, they played at Ortlieb’s Lounge, the former jazz spot turned new hipster haven. What a strange place for a show. The stage faces a wall and the crowd area is only about five feet deep (though very long). It is incredibly intimate – you have to get close to the bands and the fans.

The Brooklyn-based art/punk duo put on a great show, burning through about 20 songs in about 30 minutes. The played much of their new album, Eat Like Lisa Act Like Bart, as well as a few tracks off their previous album, Beets, Limes and Rice.

Japanther was preceded by The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, who were unbelievably fun. The Nashville band had the small crowd dancing and smiling. Words don’t do it justice so just watch the video below to see what you missed.
