A Day Without Love @ The Victorian Dining Room in The North Star Bar.

May 14, 2013

ADayWithoutLove03Three days after playing a packed house at The Fire for their record release party, A Day Without Love performed a subdued acoustic set in the Victorian Dining Room at the North Star Bar.

The intimate setting – there were maybe 15 people there, in a room that felt like someone’s home – was perfect for frontman Brian Walker’s deeply personal lyrics. The anguish was presented beautifully, masked by his big grin as he spoke to the audience between songs.

The set ended around 10:30, as Walker acknowledged that people likely had to go to work the next morning.

“I have a final tomorrow,” he said, telling everyone that he’s a graduate student at Hofstra (he graduates on Sunday). “I know grad school isn’t punk and all but, you know.”

The three-piece ended with “Everything is beautiful.” That wasn’t really punk either but Walker improvised lyrics mid-song to give shout-outs to folks in the audience, including Joe Montone, who performed before A Day Without Love with his band Heat Thunder.
