The lineup at North Star Bar on Thursday was packed but the venue was more crowded.

A line had actually started to form fifteen minutes prior to the doors opening at 7 p.m. for the show headlined by Twin Forks, fronted by Chris Carrabba (formerly of Dashboard Confessional).

Philadelphia-based band Commonwealth Choir opened with a few energetic songs from their brand new album, Shirtless. Singer and guitarist Davis Jameson Howley jumped all over stage, occasionally making it back to the microphone in time to catch the next line of the song. Of those already filling the room, several loyal fans sang back the words to the title track.

As Commonwealth jumped off stage, the audience temporarily dispersed and waited for Matrimony, the opening band for Twin Forks’ fall tour. This group had a more melodic tone as they began and then transitioned to a folk feel, with banjo for added measure. The sound prepped the crowd for the upbeat American and alternative vibe of Twin Forks.

Moments before the headliner came on, everyone jammed up to the foot of the stage. Fans tweeted and took photos of Carrabba’s guitar before he even walked on. With thunderous footsteps, the four members of Twin Forks ran up the stairs from the underground green room and greeted the cheering audience. As Carrabba shouted a hello into his mic, a girl near the back screamed for him to take his shirt off. With a smile he looked down and got to work tuning his guitar one last time before the band started their first tune.

The members had an undeniable chemistry when it came to the performance. Mandolinist Suzie Zedlin kept Carrabba in check with off-hand remarks when he went just a step too far with his jokes. With his sense of humor and experience on stage, Carrabba kept the audience jumping up and down when when Twin Forks played and had everyone laughing between songs and sets.
