A sea of people dressed in black formed a line outside the Trocadero as the sun was setting on Halloween night. They were waiting for the second night of the Legends of Thrash Tour 2013 which is co-headlined by Overkill and Kreator, a pair of ’80s metal legends.

The opening act Warbringer, representing new thrash metal, burst onto the stage from seemingly nowhere and held the attention of the fans by providing fast riffs and pounding drums.

The mosh pit started early and continued upon the arrival of Kreator, who encouraged the moshing while playing their opening track, “Phantom Antichrist.” After an hour and ten minute set, the crowd waited in anticipation for Overkill.

The New Jersey band opened with “Deny The Cross” and ran through many of their classic songs. Singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth screeched like a cat and was sure to flip off the crowd, which was returned happily, as much as possible. Ellsworth and D.D. Verni, the bass player, are the only remaining members from the original lineup which was formed in 1980.

At the end of the night, during Overkill’s encore, they led a profane call and response worthy of a Halloween metal show in Philadelphia.
