The Lorde show couldn’t have taken place at a better venue. Her old soul persona paired with the beautiful antique look of the Tower Theater was a perfect fit. The sold-out show was packed with mostly young kids screaming their faces off. The lighting was quite majestic, looking like a beam of light shining down focusing on Lorde, and Lorde only.

I remember hearing the young singer speak on a radio station about how she declined going on tour with Katy Perry. She wants to leave her own mark and set a good example for the youth. She commented that Selena Gomez’s song “Come & Get It” sends young women the wrong message. And I think she’s right. On this night, she serenaded the audience with tracks like “Team” and “Tennis Court” off her debut Pure Heroine album.

Some of her lyrics focus on how materialistic people can be, and she sends the message that that’s not all there is to live for. In her song “Royals” she croons, “But everybody’s like, Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece/ Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash/ We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair.” She’s focused on her own life and what she has. The media tends to showcase people’s egos, and she is sending a positive message that you shouldn’t care about all that.

Overall, a great show and a great message. I might even go as far as saying I have hope for millennials…
