Philly FM Fest: Ska/Punk Night @ The Fire.
Jukebox Romantics lead singer Chris Schultz (center) showed up for a night of NY/ NJ suburban angst, ska/ punk sounds at The Fire in a Mets jersey.
“I thought I’d play in Philly in a Mets jersey and be facetious and all,” he screamed between songs to a sparse crowd of maybe 20 people. “But Philly didn’t show up.”
Bass player Michael Stratton added, “Thanks for ruining the joke, assholes.”
The Romantics played a tight, rambunctious set and by the time they were done, the crowd had probably doubled.
The Snails, Let Me Crazy and Two Fisted Law were also on the lineup, which was technically part of the Philly FM Fest, with headliner Hub City Stompers (below).
On Saturday, The Fire is hosting more Philly FM stuff (for FREE!): Kuf Knotz, Hunter’s Cannon, Ron Gallo, Ella Dars, Yikes!, The Weeds, Joe Duffey’s Underwater Window Garden, Tuhs & Fuhs, Lady, and Sunshine Superman
Let Me Crazy will play at Jose Pistola’s Sunday evening.

D&M: Home Again (And Now With Horns!).
Our Jillian Mallon spoke with Danny Fornasa of Drexel University-based alternative pop band D&M. He and the band’s other two members, Matt Klahre and Miles Mueller, accompanied by a whole bunch of new tricks, will play a “Welcome Home” show on September 25th at the World Café Live to mark the end of the national tour they completed this summer. (Photo at Triumph Brewing Company by G.W. Miller III).
You are cited as a Drexel band. Did you meet and form as Drexel University students or were you making music beforehand?
Me and Matt (Klahre), our guitar player, met at orientation at Drexel. Everyone who is in the band all met at Drexel and formed at Drexel. We’ve all been playing music since we were very young and were lucky enough to meet each other at Drexel University. I met Matt during an ice breaker game where you had to talk about your interests and stuff and we had the same musical influences and liked the same guitar players and we tried to jam once the school year started. We played together and we really enjoyed it. That day we decided to form a band and get rocking and rolling. Read more…
