A Few Things We’re Kind of Excited About.

This week, two of the acts featured in the summer issue of JUMP will be performing in town.
Dave Patten (right, shown with Meek Mill) will perform at the Hard Rock Cafe tonight. The show is all-ages and only $5. Our Niesha Miller spent time with Dave and learned about his musical influences and aspirations. Fine the story here.
The Fleeting Ends (above) will play Johnny Brenda’s on Thursday alongside Boy Without God and Gallo & Hull. Read the story about the formation of The Fleeting Ends here.
On July 21st, our cover duo, Reading Rainbow, will play Johnny Brenda’s with Creepoid (seen naked in JUMP here) and a few other acts as a fund raiser for Vox Populi Gallery. This should be an absolutely amazing show, and for a great cause.
The JUMP crew are now knee deep in preparing for the fall issue, which will drop right after Labor Day.
In the meantime, we’ll be updating the website regularly but you can also stay in touch with JUMP via facebook and twitter. Feel free to drop us a line with suggestions for stories or anything else.
Enjoy the summer issue stories here. And check out the stories from the spring issue (the stories are still relevant).

If you are interested in advertising, we definitely would love to hear from you.
MusicTown: Florence + the Machine @ Festival Pier.

Here’s even more great stuff from Claire Fishkow, who photographed Florence + the Machine on June 20, 2011 when they played Festival Pier.
If you see music happening – on the street, at shows, in people’s houses, whatever – shoot it and send us your pics. We’ll show them off here, and maybe in the print edition.
Summer Jam: Kansas City by Wendy.
Summer Jam: Ice Wharf by Work Drugs.
Check out the brand new video by Work Drugs. The band will perform on Sunday, July 3, at Johnny Brenda’s as part of The Roots Fourth of July Jam.
You can download the song for free here. A 5-track album is available for $2.00 here.

East Hundred: EP Release Saturday @ Johnny Brenda’s.
New music has been on the horizon for Fishtown five-piece East Hundred for some time now.
Since 2009’s Passenger, the band’s first full-length release, they’ve done tons of writing and have brought new creations to life on stages all around town.
One of the most memorable of these fresh cuts is “So Strange,” a vivacious gem that highlights vocalist Beril Guceri’s vibrant range over plush guitar and bass melodies. It’ll be the lead track from The Spells, a long-awaited, five-song EP, funded and recorded through a campaign on Kickstarter.com.
The band celebrates the release of the record Saturday night at Johnny Brenda’s with Turning violet Violet, Steve Goldberg and The Arch Enemies. Your $10 admission gains you a digital download of The Spells.
For now, listen to “So Strange.”

Loads of Stars But The Roots Stole the Show.
Our cover boys, Nicos Gun, performing inside the tent.
Esperanza Spalding, backed by The Roots.
Little Dragon from Sweden playing the main stage.
Nas was the big draw for the picnic this year but it was Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) who stole the show (seen here with Questlove).

They bonded over Blur in a mutual friend’s apartment in Blacksburg, VA. That’s it. That’s the love story of Sarah Everton and Rob Garcia, the couple who make up the two-piece garage punk band, Reading Rainbow.
There were no elaborate tales of Peter Gabriel songs spilling from a boombox that Rob, now 28, held above his head for hours (or at least until the songs’ competition). There were no stories of Sarah, 27, falling in love with her summer camp dance instructor. No stories with roses, conveniently kissing in the rain or any of that Hollywood romance stuff. This was no Nora Ephron movie.
Four years ago, there was just Blur, a couch and a friend in common who thought Sarah and Rob might just get along. Read more…
