Norwegian Arms @ Johnny Brenda’s Tonight!

Our globetrotting columnist Brendan Mulvihill, aka Keith Birthday, will be playing this evening at Johnny Brenda’s as part of his band Norwegian Arms. They’ll be playing alongside Nik Freitas and Avi Buffalo.

Our friends from City Rain will be performing on Thursday at the North Star Bar with The Canon Logic, Sleeper Agent and Run to Sandy.

Justin was previously a bandmate of Rich Mancinelli, who is now a part of June Divided. Justin is doing a few covers to get his name out there but has a full album of original music scheduled for a fall release.

Turning violet Violet, whom we profiled in the summer issue of JUMP, will do an acoustic performance at the JUMP mag launch party on November 16 at Temple University’s Paley Library. We’ll announce details as the date nears.

The video was shot and produced by the Northern Liberties-based crew at klip collective. Pitchfork gave them a nod last week.

Check out the new song and video by Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies. The video was shot entirely on Steve’s cell phone, all around town.

The single is from the band’s forthcoming 5-song EP, for which they are raising funds for to finish the post-production.

A Few More Things We’re Kind of Excited About …

September will be huge for Philly’s music scene.

The Popped! music festival will take place on September 23 and 24, with Patty Crash and Girl Talk (above) performing, among many other great acts (like The Shins, Yuck, Rakim, Cults, etc). Single day tickets go on sale on Friday. And find our profile of Patty Crash in the fall issue of JUMP, which will be available on September 6.

That same weekend will be the Philadelphia Film & Music Fest (actually running from September 22 through the 25th). Among the amazing acts will be Descendents, Neutral Uke Hotel, Hezekiah Jones, The Suicide Machines, DEADMAU5, Buried Beds, Good Old War and many, many others.

There are also several other music festivals and events, details of which will be in the fall issue of JUMP.
