Cheers Elephant, the former Philly pop-rock act that recently moved to California, played a homecoming show at Union Transfer last Friday.

The packed floor of diverse fans welcomed the band back to their hometown. Limbs swung along comically, yet proudly off beat. Lead vocalist Derek Krzywicki belted out hit songs like “Leaves” and at one point during the set ditched his microphone for a battered megaphone.

After their last song of the night, voices rallied in unison for an encore. The fans’ wishes were granted and Cheers Elephant returned to the stage one last time.

Fans were reluctant to leave the company of their beloved musicians, who later lingered at the merch table. Each band member greeted fans as though they were old friends, showing no lack of humility after their move to the West Coast.

Toy Soldiers preceded Cheers, playing their last show together. Multiple guests joined the band, which has been around since 2007, on stage to wish them well in their future journeys.

Cheerleader started the night with their upbeat summer sounds.
