MusicTown: Maps & Atlases @ The Church.

Colin Kerrigan photographed Chicago band Maps & Atlases, who played in the basement of the First Unitarian Church last Wednesday night. They played a solid, hour-long, energetic set before they played an acoustic set in the middle of the crowd.

MusicTown: Nicos Gun @ Diamond Riggs Studio.

Our Colin Kerrigan has been hanging out with Nicos Gun for a story in the summer issue of JUMP (which will drop on June 3). He photographed the guys rehearsing at Diamond Riggs Studio, which is owned by The Disco Biscuits. Harry Zelnick, drummer of Nicos Gun, produced The Disco Biscuits’ 2010 record Planet Anthem.

Shaking Through: Hezekiah Jones

Since January 2010, Weathervane Music and WXPN have collaborated on a music and video web series, Shaking Through. Led by Brian McTear of Miner Street Recording studios, they provide opportunities to rising, independent artists. The series has included several Philly bands, including Party Photographers and Reading Rainbow.

The latest installment stars the local indie-folk band Hezekiah Jones. We spoke to the band’s frontman, Raphael Cutrufello, by phone yesterday as he was driving to the Midwest where the band will tour for the next two weeks.

How was the experience working with the Weathervane folks?

It was amazing. Brian’s studio is definitely one of the best in the city as far as gear and just the space itself. And Brian is a legend when it comes to Philadelphia producers. Read more…
