Funny who you run into in Philly, sitting outside, playing guitar in Northern Liberties.
Today, we found Curt Chambers, a Germantown native who was nominated for a Grammy in 2010. He’s touring with Eminem again starting in June.
If you see music happening – on the street, at shows, in people’s houses, whatever – shoot it and send us your pics. We’ll show them off here, and maybe in the print edition.

MusicTown: John Oates Sings Curtis Mayfield.
We watched local boy John Oates, a North Penn High School and Temple University grad, doing sound check on Saturday before a performance at the Temple Performing Arts Center. The formerly-mustached half of Hall & Oates warmed up the mic with an acoustic rendition of the Curtis Mayfield classic, “It’s Alright.”
Oates recently recorded a new album, Mississippi Mile, that he is pitching via Pledge Music. The 12 songs on the album are a return to Oates’ early passions in folk music.
“My roots prior to meeting Daryl (Hall) really are something people probably don’t know about,” Oates told JUMP. “That’s why I did this album. People probably think I was born with a mustache, singing ‘Maneater.'”
You can find the full story of Oates and his musical passions in the summer issue of JUMP when it hits the streets on June 3rd.
MusicTown: the Black Lips at the Trocadero.
Colin Kerrigan photographed the Black Lips playing the Trocadero on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Help Us Spotlight Philly Music.
We’re knee deep in preparing the next issue, which will drop on June 3rd.
And we need your help.
It costs us $5,500 to print 10,000 copies of the magazine. We volunteer our time to create the content, layout the pages and distribute the magazine. We devote countless hours to the project because we love the Philly music scene in all it’s diversity.
We aren’t trying to get rich, for sure.
Starting today and running through May 9th, we’re offering a two issue deal for advertising. If you advertise in the summer issue, we’ll throw in an ad for the fall issue for free. That makes it a 50 percent discount.
Find ad rates here.
Among the subjects we’re writing about for the summer issue: Questlove, Reading Rainbow, Jessi Teich, Joe Hardcore, John Oates, Tune Up Philly, Girls Rock Philly, Philly’s Brazilian music scene and much, much more.
The fall issue centers around the two massive independent music festivals that will take place in town – along Girard Avenue and at FDR park. The issue will be released immediately after Labor Day.
If you haven’t seen the spring issue, find it online here. We dropped hard copies at these locations but the mags were swept up pretty quickly around town. A few places still have copies.
Contact George Miller about advertising or to get a hard copy of the mag.
Stay in touch with us via twitter and facebook.
And if you’re interested in the magazine’s start-up process, you can read about it here.
Thanks to all the JUMP fans!

Many thanks to all who made our launch party such a huge, smashing success tonight. A packed house heard Creeping Weeds, Mercury Radio Theater and Lamagier … all of whom totally rocked.

Our next issue hits the street on June 3, just in time for the Roots Picnic. We’re hoping to hold an all-ages show between now and then,
Huge apologies to the under-21 crowd who had planned to attend the show tonight. Things got really messed up at the last minute.
TODAY IS THE DAY: Launch Party Tonight!
Creeping Weeds (above) will play our launch party at National Mechanics tonight, with Lamagier and Mercury Radio Theater.
The event is FREE. Come hang out, grab a copy of the mag, meet the staff, have a few drinks, dance a little bit and make Monday suck a little less.
Party details are here. Bring your friends.
