There was a sold out show. There was a packed floor of dancing and constant hands thrown in the air. There was pool paraphernalia floating around, like Styrofoam noodles and beach balls, and water skyrocketing through the air. There was dancing. There was grinding. There were condom balloons and a nearly 90 percent show of full-on sex on the middle of the floor.
By the end of Diplo’s concert at Union Transfer Thursday night, even the main man was shirtless as the crowd raged to his catchy “Express yourself,” a track released back in 2012. Girls in cut-off tops and short-shorts danced it out on stage, while others twirled neon hula-hoops on the floor.
Entering onto the stage just after midnight and leaving as the clock rolled past 2 a.m., Diplo gave a show full of heartbeat-skipping tracks that made the crowd go wild. It was a party, just a day before his even larger Mad Decent Block Party held at Festival Pier. Many fans voiced that they’d be sweating it out at there, too, giving proof that a lone DJ spinning beats behind a stark table on stage could create a magnetism to draw the masses. That not-fully-explainable, reverberating pull is one that keeps them wanting more.
“Diplo’s the fucking man,” yelled a guy jumping up and down to “Boy Oh Boy.” “The fucking man.”
It seemed most of the crowd agreed.
